Messages, reactions, editing & search
The day-to-day of sending, reacting to and finding messages.
Writing
The composer supports bold, *italic*, underline and strikethrough. The + menu attaches files, opens a channel canvas or automates the channel. There's a GIF picker and an emoji picker, including your organization's custom emoji — drop one by name, like :shipit:.
Reactions, editing and deleting
- React to any message with an emoji, or tap an existing reaction to add yours.
- Edit your own message and it's marked as edited; delete removes it from the conversation.
- Admins can remove other people's messages.
Search
There is one search, and it stays out of the way until you want it: a button on the right that opens a panel underneath itself. The thread does not reflow when it opens.
- It opens scoped to the room you are reading, shown as a chip —
#general:— in front of what you type. - Backspace on the empty box removes the chip and widens the search to the whole workspace, exactly like taking a filter off in a mail client.
- Widened, results come back in two parts: Conversations — which holds rooms *and* the people you message, because removing the rail's filter must not remove your ability to find a person — and Messages.
- A part with nothing in it is not drawn. If neither has anything, you get one plain sentence rather than two empty headings.
- You can only ever search conversations you're a member of.
Link previews
Pasting a URL renders a preview card — one card per message, the first link only, and only when the page actually publishes a title. A card that says less than the URL is worse than no card, so those are skipped. Links to Noots are previewed without fetching anything externally.
Custom emoji is on the Business plan and above; chat canvases are Team and above; chat workflows are Business and above.
